Colour Coding & Microfiber

Cross contamination can be one of the main causes for spreading germs and bacteria around a workplace. That is why MCS adopt a very strict colour coding procedure. In low risk areas such as office areas we use yellow equipment, kitchens and canteens-blue, toilet and washroom areas-red and washroom sinks-green.

To compliment this system we also use microfiber technology. Microfiber is a synthetic fiber that is less than 1 denier in size. By further splitting this fiber further it produces a larger surface area which is far more absorbent than a cotton towel. Furthermore the filaments in the cloth grab any dirt from the surface, but because the filaments are synthetic, the dirt can easily be released by machine washing. Because the cloth is doing the work that typically a chemical solution would do, the impact to the environment is considerable and due to the robust nature of the fiber, the cloths can be washed hundreds of times, which saves on waste too.

Environmental Cleaning

MCS understand the impact on the environment of harsh chemicals such as bleach and other toxic agents. That is why, wherever possible, MCS have researched into replacing these products with more ethically sound alternatives. By using a combination of ecologically sound cleaners, biological cleaners which use friendly bacteria and citrus based cleaning agents, we can offer an unrivalled service while protecting the environment.

It is not just about what is in the bottle but also how it is packaged. All the packaging we use can be recycled but we also use chemical dosing systems. These systems are concentrated versions of our products which are delivered to our sites. When required our cleaner can then refill their trigger sprayer and top up with water. Not only does this reduce packaging but also the number of stock deliveries which helps our CO2 emissions targets.

Training & Monitoring

Staff are a cleaning companies most valuable asset but very few organisations treat them as such. Without the proper training a cleaner will either be a valued member of a team or your worst nightmare. MCS take the risk out of this by ensuring they only recruit trustworthy, competent individuals. When recruiting we do not necessarily look for previous cleaning experience, we believe a good attitude to work and attention to detail are the core skills needed. All of our staff will undergo a comprehensive site induction which will train the staff on our chemicals / dilutions, health and safety, lifting and carrying, a full site specification and how we clean. This gives the cleaner a clear view on our expectations and leaves no room for misinterpretation.

Using our bespoke telephone attendance software system, our staff members clock in and out of our customer site using any available land line. This system then logs the employee start and finish time and alerts our management team to early leavers or no shows.

By putting the time in at the start of employment with MCS, we find that our staff are motivated members of the team, but left too long they can soon start to feel less valued.
On a monthly basis we complete a full site audit with corrective actions, which the cleaner must address. This audit will then be followed up after one week to ensure that the issues raised are being dealt with.

Rewarding Performance

By putting the time in at the start of employment with MCS, we find that our staff are motivated members of the team, but left too long they can soon start to feel less valued.

Typically, the only communication a cleaner will receive from their company is negative, that is why we believe it is important to keep that link which was established when they were employed.

Each month all of our staff receive a staff newsletter. This will contain any information on any new contract awards, current vacancies and any other information that we need to communicate to the team. It also contains the names of any new members of staff and welcomes them to the company, staff birthdays and most importantly the site of the month.

Each month, one of our contracts will be awarded the site of the month. This is awarded to the site which has ‘gone the extra mile’, or showed a consistent high level of cleaning. We also recognise our staff with birthday cards, Christmas presents and even Easter eggs! The actual monetary value is relatively small but to our staff, they see these gestures as a ‘thank you’ for doing a great job.

Audits

On a monthly basis we complete a full site audit (A copy of which is included). This audit will look at the current cleaning programme and report any corrective actions. It will also check that signage is properly displayed, our equipment is clean and safe and also the cleanliness of the cleaning cupboard. In addition to our contracted obligations, we also look at the general condition of the site and list any items that need attention (such as a coffee spill), this is then communicated back to our customer.

The document is in a triplicate format, the first copy is left for the cleaner to action, the second is retained by us and the third copy is left for our customer. This audit will then be followed up after one week to ensure that the issues raised are being dealt with.
